Each year, the Denver bike accident lawyers at Bowman Law team up with the Denver Cruisers to promote bike safety. You have never heard of the Denver Cruisers? If you are unfamiliar with the Denver Cruisers, allow me to explain in greater detail. What started with a dozen pioneers a decade ago has transformed into one of the greatest manifestations in Denver.
Each week, starting in the Spring, participants present to one of the official start locations, which include (1) the Gin Mill downtown; (2) Skylark Lounge on S. Broadway; (3) Hogshead Brewery in the lower Highlands; (4) The Denver Wrangler at 1700 Logan; and (5) Odelay Tacos/ Thirty Fourteen/ Beetle Bar at 3014 E. Colfax. Stopping at one of the aforementioned locations before the ride is a great idea, as it will allow you to grab a drink, meet fellow riders, and grab a map before hitting the streets.
Upon arrival, you will notice how closely the environment resembles a house party on Halloween. Adults are decked out with screaming shades, vibrant wigs, and other brightly flavored keepsakes. At first blush, it may seem as if there is no method to the madness. On closer look, however, you will revel in the fact each participant is uniquely dressed according to a predetermined theme. This year, you will see the return of some classics, including “Bubble Wrap, Duct Tape, & Card Board,” “Dress Night,” “Road Warrior,” and “Pirates, Sea Men & Mermaids.” Other interesting new themes have popped up, including “People of Walmart,” “Denver 1894,” and tomorrow’s theme “Reds & Robes.”
Whichever starting location you chose will be filled with other fun-loving, costumed adventurers. Needless to say, it will be an awesome party. All otherwise uninformed bar patrons will mistakenly believe they scored pay dirt in their bar choice until the sun starts to fade. Around 8:00 pm, the scene begins to transition from the lively environment filled with friendly people the former watering hole of solitude. The cruisers have mounted up.
Do not fear being left behind. It would be impossible for you to miss the thousands of cyclists lighting up the streets with their infectious joy and genuine laughter. If you cannot see it, alternatively, you will certainly hear it. Every few blocks, another cruiser has transformed a bike into a portable DJ booth, complete with your favorite tunes to ride to.
On your journey, you will see some rather amazing revelations. You may see bicycles with two stories or bikes that ride sideways. You may even see bikes with platforms, fully equipped with a pole and female dancers. You will be startled at what people have done to their bikes. Depending on where you start and where the ride ends, you may be on the road for 15 minutes or it may be an hour. Regardless, you have found yourself riding alongside a pleasurable group of new found friends. After you have made your way through the designated route, you will reach what has been dubbed the “Circle of Death.” Up to this point, I have spared no detail. I find it necessary, however, for you to experience the Circle of Death on your own. When you get to where you are going, grab a drink, meet some friends, and have fun!
